Hydrangea paniculata Bulk, sold as Quick Fire and Early Sensation, begins flowering about a month before many panicle hydrangeas. Airy white panicles quickly blush pink and deepen to dark rosy red or red-purple.
Strong reddish stems hold the blooms upright above green foliage that can turn gold and burgundy in fall. The vigorous 185- to 245-centimeter shrub works in hedges, screens, mass plantings, pollinator gardens, and cutting borders.
Grow it in sun or partial shade and moist, well-drained soil. Prune by about one-third in late winter or early spring, maintain moisture during flowering, and wear gloves when handling.
