Small five-petaled flowers open in warm vermilion and tomato-red shades, with yellow centers and paler petal reverses; older blooms may soften toward orange. The colorful display continues through summer and into early autumn.
Grow it in full sun or partial shade in well-drained chalky, loamy, or sandy soil. Bright partial shade helps the red color remain strong in hot weather. Water regularly while the roots establish, then water during extended dry spells. Cut back about one-third before spring growth to keep the shrub dense. Its compact scale suits flowering borders, containers, low hedges, and pollinator gardens.
